The busy holiday season has arrived and with it comes an amazing selection of events set to take place in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
This afternoon, Monster Theatre (The Shakespeare Show, Mini Masterpieces) is back at the Performing Arts Centre with their take on a classic Christmas tale: A Christmas Carol. With two performances to choose from starting at 2 and 4 p.m., this production is full of holiday fun that kids and parents alike will love. It’s just about time to don your winter gear for Caravan Farm Theatre’s winter production of Old Nick. True to Caravan tradition, be whisked away on a horse-drawn sleigh to watch scenes about a grumpy hermit named Nick whose life is about to be changed by a mission to save Christmas. Old Nick starts up Dec. 11 with performances most nights thru Dec. 31. Some of the shows are already sold out so call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) soon to avoid disappointment.
On Wednesday, Dec. 12, the Performing Arts Centre is host to a Rock N’ Roll Christmas. Spend a nostalgic evening with Zach Stevenson as Buddy Holly, Ted Torres as young Elvis, Larry Branson as Roy Orbison and Kenny Wayne as Fats Domino. They’ll be singing all your favourite Christmas tunes backed by the Memphis Beats band starting at 7:30 p.m.

This coming weekend, the Generation II Dance Society is on stage at the Performing Arts Centre for two performances of the timeless holiday classic, The Nutcracker. Choose from an evening performance Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30, or the Saturday, Dec. 15 matinee starting at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through the Ticket Seller by calling 549-SHOW (7469).
Dec. 14 thru 16 you’ll find performances by the Vernon Community Music School’s Glee Club at the Powerhouse Theatre. It’s a performance of live music, song and dance as the Glee Club brings you The Beatles music that inspired the hit musical, Across the Universe. Showtime is at 8 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15, or choose the 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 16. Tickets are on sale through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
Coming up Dec. 19, Paul Moore is at All Saints Anglican Church for his festive performance of Do You Hear What I Hear? It’s an evening of music and a special debut of Moore’s new choir. The show starts at 8 p.m. and you can call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) for your tickets.
Dec. 20 at the Powerhouse Theatre is a very special concert performance by Mathys Roets. This much loved South African singer will pay tribute to masters including Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are on sale through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
The Hub Arts Collective is presenting How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Dec. 20 and 21.
It’s a production by The Hub’s Children’s Musical Theatre program featuring the voices of up and comers in the theatre community. The performances start at 6:30 p.m. at The Hub and tickets are on sale through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
And on Dec. 21 is the inaugural winter solstice party, Welcome Back the Light, at the Vernon Recreation Centre. The event is headlined by the band Blackberry Wood and features live music and dancing, artist vendors, unique gifts and food, all under one roof. Tickets are available at the door or you can save a few dollars by purchasing in advance from the Ticket Seller by calling 549-SHOW (7469).
