Centre Point: Kids can camp out at theatre this summer

Camping season is just around the corner and I’ve been trying to get all of the necessities together for new adventures in British Columbia’s beautiful forests.

So far this year’s “now you see it, and now you don’t” summer weather, with its quick cameos in and out of the valley, has really stunted my packing and preparations.

After all, it hasn’t really felt like summer for more than a few hours at a time!

Whatever the weather, there is always refuge and comfort to be found in our soft-seated climate-controlled Performing Arts Centre, where the 2011 recital season is ready for its last “hurrah!”

Carole’s Dance Academy is at the Performing Arts Centre this evening for All For You, their second annual year-end production.

Vernon’s newest dance studio brings to stage dancers ages six through adult performing jazz, tap, hip hop and musical theatre styles. Tickets are still available online at www.ticketseller.ca or through at-door sales one hour prior to the performance, which starts at 7 p.m.

Coming up June 19, the Okanagan School of Ballet celebrates 31 years of dance at the Performing Arts Centre.

This year’s theme is In Living Colour, which is a culmination of a season of hard work by the studio’s dancers. Exam awards and scholarships will also be announced at the show, which starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased through the Ticket Seller by calling 549-SHOW (7469).

Wrapping up the Performing Arts Centre’s recital season is the En Avant School of Dance June 25.

Giant opening and closing numbers will feature the entire school with outstanding ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and musical theatre routines in between. Call the Ticket Seller box office at 549-SHOW (7469) for tickets.

Missoula Children’s Theatre (Robinson Crusoe, Pinocchio) is back at the Performing Arts Centre for a week of musical theatre and their production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs July 4.

A pair of actor/directors will arrive at the centre with sets, costumes, makeup, and everything else needed to put on their production – except the cast!

Up to 60 local youth entering Grades 1 through 12 have a chance to be part of the cast and the camp will be ready on Saturday, July 9 for two performances starting at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

There are still spaces available for registration so call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) or visit www.ticketseller.ca for more information on this exciting opportunity.  Enjoy the shows!
