With All Hallow’s Eve yet to appear this week, I think a lot of us have been feeling a little more spooked by the snow line creeping down the hills rather than the usual ghosts and ghouls of the season.
Whatever might be giving you the chills as we head into November, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a show to pique your interests.
Here are a few suggestions happening within the next few weeks:
Today is your last chance to see the Jewels & Arte Functional exhibit and art sale, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Marie Fleming Hall at the Performing Arts Centre.
This unique art show and sale is presented by the Ashpa Naira Gallery and features The Bones of Tobias by artist Lori Mairs. Admission is free so take a moment to stop by and see this intricate and eclectic display.
The Okanagan Science Centre’s famous Haunted House is open tonight, Tuesday and Halloween night. This year’s theme is Drains of Darkness: What Lurks Below? and the science centre has put together a kids’ version and a very scary version for those who dare to enter. Coming up Nov. 4, the Performing Arts Centre’s 2012/2013 kids’ series starts up when Story Theatre Company takes the stage for Aladdin. Through puppetry, acting and storytelling, Aladdin goes on a secret voyage to recover the lamp and find his missing father in this imaginative adventure. There are two performances to choose from starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and tickets are on sale now through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
Affordable kids’ series subscriptions are on sale now and include tickets to Aladdin, A Christmas Carol, The Studio and a special concert performance by Norman Foote in the spring. A subscription is a great value and a way to give the little ones in your life access to quality program and cultural experiences. Operatic tenor Paul Moore is back on Nov. 7 for an evening of music and his own unique humour. The concert starts at 8 p.m. at the All Saints Anglican Church and tickets are on sale through the Ticket Seller by calling 549-SHOW (7469).
On Nov. 9 and 10, you won’t want to miss the Okanagan Rhythmic Gymnastics performances of Anastasia. On stage is an incredible and dynamic blend of drama, acrobatics, dance, music, gymnastics and cirque-styled storytelling. There are three performances to choose from: Evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. on the Friday and Saturday, and there is a 2:30 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday the 10th.
