The signs of spring are all around me these days – literally. I live on a major road in town, which is being torn to pieces. Looking out at my street I get a front row seat for that non-wintery season that lasts from about now through November that we Canadians like to call “construction season.”
Meanwhile, looking out my rear window, I’m seeing a great deal of future yard work growing uncontrollably in my small patch of earth.
Spring is also setting the scene in the figurative picture windows of your favourite live performance spaces. There are all sorts of events to choose from whether it’s classical music, family fun, or a live-on-stage comic book that tickles your taste buds.
As with most live theatre, you only get one chance to see the performance, so be sure to get out to these exciting events.
This afternoon the Performing Arts Centre is the place to be for family fun as Juno award winning musician and entertainer Norman Foote is on stage for two very special performances.
Theatrical and comedic talents woven with storytelling and catchy tunes, Foote’s concerts are highly regarded in the industry. There are two performances to choose from starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and tickets can still be picked up online at www.ticketseller.ca or at the door for just $12.
The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra is back at the Performing Arts Centre on Thursday evening for their performance of Kaleidoscope.
The programme includes Pierre Mercure’s Kaleidoscope, Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D Minor, and the OSO will be joined on stage by pianist Minsoo Sohn for Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 in C Minor.
The show starts at 7 p.m. in the main auditorium and there is a pre-concert talk starting at 6 p.m. in the Marie Fleming Hall. Call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) for your tickets.
Coming up on Monday, April 22 is the exciting Intergalactic Nemesis at the Performing Arts Centre.
It’s what happens when a classic radio show meets a live action graphic novel in a fantastic way. You’ll see comic book frames projected behind actors and a musician giving voice and life to the characters. Add in a foley artist providing all the sound effects one can dream of and you’ve got one incredibly unique live show unfolding before your eyes.

On April 23, the North Okanagan Community Concert Association’s series continues at the Performing Arts Centre with clarinet virtuoso Francois Houle. He’ll be accompanied by pianist Jane Hayes for a diverse programme including classical, jazz, along with new, improvised and world music.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. and you can buy your tickets through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).
And Powerhouse Theatre’s spring production starts up on April 24. The Last of the Red Hot Lovers is a story about a middle-aged restaurant owner who lusts for a new way of life. The crazy antics unfold as Barney Cashman is foiled by his basic good nature. The production runs most nights through May 4, with a matinee April 28 starting at 2 p.m.
