Caravan Farm Theatre’s Winter Sleigh Ride show starts this Thursday.

With Advent calendars getting emptier by the day, December has a way of being delicious yet frantic all at once.

Whether these next few weeks have you shopping, baking, crafting or procrastinating, make sure to schedule some “you” time and take in your favourite traditional events:

Caravan Farm Theatre’s Winter Sleigh Ride show starts this Thursday.

Bundle up tight for the story of The Contest of the Winds as you’re swept across the scenic and serene acres of Caravan Farm.

Performances of this local Aboriginal tale are most nights from Dec. 11 through Jan. 4 at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Many nights are filling up quickly, so visit www.ticketseller.ca for an up-to-date list of available shows to choose from.

Melina Moore is back on stage at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Friday and Saturday with the festive A Melina Moore Christmas.

Joining this soprano on stage will be special guests, New York City-based contralto Jennifer Hines, baritone Alan Corbishley, City Dance Okanagan, the Regalo Octet and more to carry on the tradition of music, magic and mistletoe in a show for all ages.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. on the Friday and 2 p.m. on the Saturday and tickets are on sale now through the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469).

Saturday is a night of hootin’ and hollerin’ at Kal Tire Place as the Road Hammers, Doc Walker and Blackjack Billy are on stage for Bands on the Run.

These award winning country music bands are hot off the heels of album releases and are touring together with a set lest including hits Mud, Shake It Like It’s Saturday Night and The Booze Cruise.

Internationally renowned pianist Frank Mills is on stage at the Performing Arts Centre Dec. 15 for a special live concert performance.

Mills shares his music, memories and humour from his 40-year career that has taken him to stages around the world. Best known for Music Box Dancer, this ditty from the 1970s is one of the most recognizable pieces of music ever released. Tickets are still available through the Ticket Seller by calling 549-SHOW (7469).

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra is at the Performing Arts Centre on Dec. 21 for their performance of Yuletide Brass.

Featuring guest vocalist Dawn Mussellam, along with the Fish on Five Brass Quintet, the evening’s program includes selections from Bach, Handel and Verdi for a celebration of holiday spirit. Call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) for tickets.

And don’t forget there is one more show for the Rotary Carol Festival at the Performing Arts Centre this afternoon starting at 2 p.m. Local choirs, musicians and special guests are featured in this wonderful Okanagan tradition. Admission is by donation and this is an extremely popular event so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
