Chef Survival Challenge on at Saanich’s Madrona Farm

Sept. 7 event sees chefs and firefighters race around farm for ingredients before a feast

Cheer on your favourite local chefs as they prove their dedication to local sustainable ingredients and the lengths they will go to protect the farms that provide the best in local foods.

The seventh annual Chef Survival Challenge takes place Sept. 7 at Madrona Farm.

Each chef is paired with a firefighter assistant as they hang, hurdle, balance, zipline, climb, crawl and even race boats around the 11-hectare farm to pick the right ingredients for their cooking competition.

The chefs, and one honorary firefighter, will then be forced to cook their culinary creations on nothing more than camping stoves.

Tickets ($40 adults/$15 youth) includes a feast, music and an obstacle race.

Madrona Farm sells its fruits and vegetables daily at a roadside market stand on Blenkinsop Road.

The farm produces a diversity of 105 crops, 12 months a year and keeps foul and other wildlife on its grounds.
