Chilliwack creative guru Geoff Edwards to host July’s Creative Third Thursday event

The event was established to help people in creative industries meet, mingle, and make new ideas

Understanding its appeal on the international stage, the City of Chilliwack has worked diligently for nearly two decades to establish the region as a prime location for visually creative endeavors.

Through the establishment and efforts of the Chilliwack Creative Commission in 1999, the city secured itself as the background for many well-known films and commercials, however, the Commission also focuses on generating creativity within the community.

“Creative Third Thursdays started in April 2017,” said Geoff Edwards, who’s a member of the Creative Commission, which is a subsidiary of the Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation (CEPCO). “As members of the (Commission), we’ve each taken on hosting one Creative Third Thursday—this will be my second.”

Hosted on the third Thursday of every month, the event is aimed at anyone who fancies themselves a creative entrepreneur, freelancer, filmmaker, photographer, videographer, designer, writer, or people who simply enjoy the company of creative types.

Owner of Streamworks.ca, Edwards says he’s going to take this opportunity to do something different than the event’s usually run of the mill presentation.

“Usually the person hosting gets up and talks about what (they’re interested in),” explained Edwards, who’s hosting July’s event. “This time, I’m going to introduce three different people and ask them a series of questions to elicit a useful response for the people who show up to the event.”

Without giving away too many details, Edwards says event attendees will be able to enjoy the commentary from a local author, a gentleman who created an entertainment network, “and the third is a mystery guest!”

Edwards says he also plans on recording the event and making it available online afterwards. “It’s a creative experiment,” said the media veteran. “For me, this is a chance to do what I do best at Streamworks.ca, and that’s to tell stories.”

July’s edition of Creative Third Thursdays will take place on July 19, at Cowork Chilliwack, which Edwards says is a “great theatre for what I’m going to do.”

The intimate, 40-seat theatre offers a great atmosphere where creative individuals can “mingle, enjoy a beer, chit-chat, and meet new (people). You can’t go wrong,” said Edwards. The event is a great place to network, create ideas, and make contacts.

Attending Creative Third Thursdays is free, but because of limited seating, people are asked to register on show’s EventBrite listing.
