Civic Theatre to reopen Reo’s at new location

The theatre has purchased the video rental store

The Civic Theatre will reopen Reo’s Video on March 17 at a new location.

The video rental store was purchased by the theatre in December and will open its doors at 225 Hall St., exactly one year after it closed its previous storefront, according to a Civic Theatre release.

“Reo’s Video and The Civic Theatre have both always endeavoured to accomplish the same thing: share a diverse array of film content and our love for cinema with the people of our community,” said theatre executive director Eleanor Stacey in a statement. “Bringing our two entities together has been such an easy and natural process because we belong together.”

Reo’s has been a community staple since 1987 when it was founded by Reo Rocheleau, and boasts a collection of almost 18,000 films.

Former owner Cole Johnston will continue on at the store as its managing curator.

“I’m not sure how I didn’t think of this collaboration earlier, it feels like a total no-brainer,” said Johnston. “Reo’s Video and The Civic Theatre are two of Nelson’s longest running film institutions, so it only makes sense that we should join forces.”
