Club Penguin founders to give talk in Kelowna

Okanagan-based founders of Club Penguin come together for an informal evening of discussion, reminiscence and reflection Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The Okanagan-based founders of Club Penguin are coming together for an informal evening of discussion, reminiscence and reflection.

Hosted by TribeHouse Artists Collective, the evening will take place Wednesday at Bottega Farm Inn in Kelowna.

Founded in 2005, Club Penguin is one of the most popular and fastest-growing virtual worlds for children. The company was developed and launched by Dave Krysko, Lane Merrifield and Lance Priebe, and their commitment to creating a safe and ad-free online playground helped propel Club Penguin to international acclaim and a partnership with the Walt Disney Company, which acquired Club Penguin in August, 2007.

The talk will be based on the men’s varied experiences from the founding of one of the most popular social networks for children to its acquisition by Disney.

Music by Urban Birds will start the evening at 6 p.m. with the discussion at 7 p.m. Admission is $20/general, $10/students. Tickets and info are available at tribehouse.org.

All proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting the efforts of TribeHouse Artist Collective and the coming festival at Bottega Farm in the summer of 2013.
