The Nanaimo Art Gallery is inviting people passionate about collecting to be part of a community-based photography exhibit.
The exhibit, What’s Ours is Yours: on Community and Collecting is meant to share stories about collectables and how they preserve memories. People are invited to take pictures of their stamps, stationary, pin cushions, tea sets or other collections.
Those selected will be contacted and a professional photographer will take photos of the collection, which will be enlarged and displayed in the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s downtown location from March 1 to April 11.
Interested participants must write a 200-word statement about their collection detailing how long they have been building it, what drew the person to collecting the particular object, what does it reflect about them and the world around them. They should also take a few digital snapshots.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 15 and can be e-mailed to jacqui.yeo@gmail.com.
