Based in Vancouver, Konstantin Bozhinov will perform in his one-man show titled The Comedy of Music at the Mary Winspear Centre.
“I’m singing, dancing, typical jokes about politics… and it’s all wrapped up in the guise of clowning,” he told the PNR.
He will perform as Maestro Stickman.
He said the young ones needn’t worry as there’s no red noses, white face or scary clown type things in the show.
By education, Bozhinov is a professional musician, but has always studied theatre in the past, acting for many years.
“There are many things that I do on stage and the problem was that I hadn’t really had the chance to do all of them at the same time, all the things that I think I’m good at that amuse me,” he said.
And so his own show was born, with his own script and scrolls, including drawing caricatures.
“You do see this sort of thing in big variety shows… but it’s very rare to see it from just a one man show.”
Bozhinov also presents a satirical view on the role of arts in a contemporary society.
He answered his thoughts on the role from the perspective of Stickman who is the client of Bozhinov in his performance.
“So he would say that in the past the arts had a little bit of a bigger role in society and nowadays that has somewhat diminished a little bit,” he said.
He said people are getting busier, with different priorities taking place here and there. He said nobody has time to practice the piano for five hours a day.
“In modern society, I think the arts, particularly performing arts, have taken a bit of a seat on the back burner.”
It will be Stickman who will give the lecture on arts and culture, with Bozhinov acting as his manager in the one-man show.
When it came to entering the arts and entertainment world, Bozhinov said he’s always been performing on stage in one form or another.
He’s done improvised theatre and comedy, along with character comedy, but he was looking to do some other things on stage,.
“So it was all this compulsion to perform. I just had to be on stage. It didn’t quite matter to me what I did, and it still doesn’t quite matter, as long as I’m on stage in front of people,” said Bozhinov.
His show will take place Dec. 9 at the Mary Winspear Centre.
