Community supports young musicians

Young musicians studying at the Vernon Community Music School recently received community support at their annual scholarship recital.

Young musicians studying at the Vernon Community Music School recently received community support at their annual scholarship recital.

Scholarships from local individuals, organizations and businesses were handed out to the students, who gathered in the school’s Carriage House Loft to showcase their skills for an appreciative and intimate audience of family, board members, donors, faculty and judges.

More than $7,000 worth of scholarships were received by the following students (listed under which instrument they play, with the scholarship donor in brackets):

Cello: Anastasia Martens (Heartwood Homes); Holly McCallum (MQN Architects).

Violin/Viola: Mika Garlick  (Drs. Lora & Mathias Fellenz); Hana Friedman (Royal Purple, Reekie, Kineshanko, Tulloch Endowment Fund); Madeleine Haynes (Caroline Galbraith Memorial); Julien Haynes (Vernon Community Singers, VCMS Door Collection); Indigo Freeman (Leota Brant Memorial); Eli Garlick (Olive Woodley Memorial); Anna Konrad (Dr. Laidlaw Scholarship, Kal Tire); Libby Wyse (Mori Family, Peter & Pauline Legg Memorial); Amy Friedman (Vernon Community Singers).

Piano: Joe Eggert (Vernon Community Singers); Sean Morgan (David & June Rempel, Kal Tire); Rachel Scuka (Gordon Wright); Jaye Odagiri (George Shaw Memorial); Stephanie Willock (Hurlburt Memorial Scholarship).
