In a new project, supported by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program, Comox Valley Arts is offering a series of free workshops, artist talks and Ask Me Anything sessions.
Comox Valley is home to hundreds of experienced, established and well-known artists across an array of genres. “PRACTICE:” is a sharing process to capture and distribute the incredible stories of their creative journeys. Through livestream, podcasts, video and blog posts, the lives and creative practices of many of these artists are visited and explored, and an education stream covering many areas of creative practice is offered/
All the following sessions are free, however space is limited so pre-registration is required:
Taking Great Photos with Your Smartphone – with Eugene Chung
Tue Nov. 5 – This is an AMA style session (Ask Me Anything) on phone photography that will help break down the barrier between you and your personal tech. Local social media marketer, Eugene Chung of @peergardenmedia, will share his brain and offer all his tips.
Photofilms: Making the Audio Visual – with Jessie Levene
Thu Nov. 21 – Fri Nov 22, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – In this 2-part workshop participants will learn how to combine stills photography of their artwork with audio of them speaking about it into a ‘Photofilm.’
How to Be An Artist – with Katie Brennan
Sat Nov. 30, 3–5 p.m. –Reflections and insights on creative practice, art education and business, and why lines are so damn fascinating).
Art Club – with Bette Kosmolak
Wed Dec 4, 1-2:30 p.m. – An opportunity to practise engaging with art by viewing original artworks by a local artist and sharing your point of view and knowledge with others.

Social Media Refresher with Eugene Chung
Wed Nov. 6, 6-8:30 p.m. – Facebook and Instagram crash course. Get up to speed fast, with all the absolute must-know info on these top two social platforms. A great workshop for anyone wants to get up and running quickly, or needs a refresher after spending time away from social media.
