B.C.’s largest fireworks competition is returning to Vancouver for another year.
The Honda Celebration of Light announced it’s official lineup on Wednesday (May 22), with battling teams from Portugal, the United Kingdom and Malaysia.
The three-day competition will take place in the evening skies over English Bay on July 20, 24 and 27.
Portugal’s team, Macedos Pirotecnia, will take to the stage first. They’re a family run operation that’s been around since 1934.
Malaysia’s team, Pyro Tact, will try for gold next. They began as a group of young part-time workers, but have since earned international recognition.
Pyrtotex Fireworx from the U.K. will finish off the competition.
“We literally breathe the event and put every bit of energy into the show to try and win. We want to make you cry but also to make you happy,” the team says.
As usual, the fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. each night. Viewing them is free, but people can also purchase tickets to a VIP viewing space, if they wish.
Originally named “Symphony of Fire,” the Celebration of Light has been running in Vancouver since 1990.
Last year, the Philippines took home first place after competing against Australia and Mexico.
