Concert Band offering matinee performance Dec. 4 at Filberg Centre

The Evergreen Club hosts the Comox Valley Concert Band Dec. 4, in an afternoon of Christmas music entitled Fireside Familiar.  Chestnuts will soon be roasting, bells on bobtails are being polished, mistletoe is being hung and somebody, somewhere, will be thinking she’ll be home for Christmas so why not celebrate winter by rousing the spirit and caressing the heart at an old fashioned concert?

This Sunday afternoon family performance will feature seasonal favourites as well as familiar tunes that strike a bell from days of yore. Your memories and our memories of Christmases past will anchor the warm and cozy arrangements that director Denise Marquette has selected for this solstice spectacular.

The 50-piece brass and wind ensemble specializes in comfort music, designed to warm the soul with just the right amount of overtures, carols, ballads and nutmeg. From “Broadway Show Stoppers” to “Silent Night, Holy Night”, from magi to miracles with plenty of snowflakes in between, the band’s euphonious harmonies will transport you to winter wonderlands remembered or imagined.

The CVCB concert begins at 2 p.m., doors open at 1:30 p.m. at the Filberg Conference Hall in Courtenay on Sunday, Dec. 4.  All seats are $5. Children under 12 are free. For more information call 250-338-1000.
