Countdown to Golden Sound Festival is on

The Golden Sound Festival is returning for its summer weekend of music in Golden, under a slightly new format this year, which allows organizers to bring in more bands and create a family-friendly daytime atmosphere at Keith King Memorial Park, as well as at two local bars downtown.

The Golden Sound Festival is returning for its summer weekend of music in Golden, under a slightly new format this year, which allows organizers to bring in more bands and create a family-friendly daytime atmosphere at Keith King Memorial Park, as well as at two local bars downtown.

The lineup has been released, and is available online or on the Facebook page, and it shows music is beginning Friday night at 9 p.m. starting with local legend Ricky Diamonds, carrying on the evening of music with This Way North, The Steadies, and Shiny Things.

The bands and DJs are sure to get people out of their seats and onto the dance floor.

On Saturday, festival goers are invited to Keith King Memorial Park on Selkirk Hill to enjoy seven bands.

The gates open at 11 a.m., and the last band begins at 9 p.m. Smalltown Revival, FRANKIE, Flowshine, Apollo Suns, The Honey Tongues, The Wooden Sky, and the Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer will entertain crowds of all ages in this fun outdoor portion of the festival.

Heading back inside for the evening for more dancing and a 19+ event, people will get to enjoy the Dahly Llama, The Allovers, Youngblood, WarBaby, Astrocolor, and Wmnstudies at the Rockwater and the Riverhouse.

The full lineup and schedule is available online at www.goldensoundfestival.com.

Festival organizer Todd Menzies says the only way to ensure people get to experience every band will be to purchase a weekend pass to all three venues, but admission to the evening venues is only allowed for people 19 years of age or older.

The outdoor festival portion at Keith King Memorial Park is open to everyone, and will have vendors and beer gardens for those who get hungry or thirsty.

Volunteer positions are still available for the Golden Sound Festival, and anyone interested in applying can go to the website, and look under “volunteer.” All volunteer positions are four-hour shifts, and volunteers will receive a full weekend pass for their time.

Applications for food vendors close on July 13, and space is limited. Food vendors should apply online as well before the deadline.

All vendors will receive one day pass to Keith King Memorial Park.

Tickets to the Golden Sound Festival are available on the website www.goldensoundfestival.com, or at Darkside at 517 9th Avenue N.

The Golden Sound Festival begins Friday night, July 27, moves outdoors Saturday during the day, and ends that night, July 28.
