Tim Hus will be at the Mad Trapper on April 28 at 8:30 p.m. where he will be helping with Little Mittens Animal Rescue Association, a local fundraiser dedicated to putting a stop to the feral cat problem in Golden. Tickets for the event will be $10 and can be purchased at the door.
“Little Mittens was formed this year, however myself and Diane Slater have been rescuing cats and kittens since 2009,” says Alannah Duffy, cofounder of Little Mittens. “Our goal is to control the feral cat population in Golden by a program called Trap, Neuter, Release.”
The program works by humanely trapping the cats and bringing them to vet clinics where they are tested for diseases, vaccinated and spayed or neutered.
“After surgery, they recuperate for a day or two in the designated areas in our homes, then they are returned to the colony where they will live out their natural lives.’
Kittens that receive medical attention from Little Mittens are given to good homes in Golden rather than released in the wild.
“We don’t have an SPCA in this town and we were both aware of the numerous cats and kittens that needed attention. So we took it into our own hands to start trying to make a difference.”
Duffy says that they are asking businesses to aid in the costs of running the event and for items to put in a silent auction they hope to hold at the show.
“This is our first fundraiser and any costs come out of our own pockets besides about $60 donated by fellow animal lovers. The proceeds from the show go directly to the animals. It will help cover the costs of spaying/ neutering, vaccinations and food for the cats and kittens.”
Tim Hus, a Canadian country singer who recently finished touring as the opening act for Stompin’ Tom Connors, will begin the show at 8:30 p.m. Hus is nominated for folks/roots artist of the year at the 2011 Canadian Music Awards and has been called a Canadian treasure. His music often reflects his Canadian upbringing and Stompin’ Tom Connors says he has ‘been looking for 30 years for a young guy who’s proud to write song about our country. I’d like to pass the torch to Tim Hus.”
