Cowichan Musical Society blockbuster ‘Mamma Mia!’ set to open

VIDEO: It's almost time for Mamma Mia! on the big stage

Are you ready to travel to a Greek island and sing along to a whole lot of Abba’s greatest hits?

You bet you are, and so are we.

The Cowichan Musical Society is in its final approach to landing the fun musical Mamma Mia! on the big stage of the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre.

A girl who wants her father to walk her down the aisle at her wedding, a mom who doesn’t know just who the dad is, as three men who might fill the bill, friends willing to offer a shoulder to cry on, several hunky young guys, and more: it’s Mamma Mia!

A big cast has been working since the end of the summer on this delightful blockbuster. All-singing, all-dancing, this show offers a bright spot as winter shudders towards its finale.

Michelle Weckesser (Donna), Carol Ann Darling (Rosie), and Jaci Mckinley Geiger (Tanya) are three older gals, while Veronica Meyer (Sophie), Mackenzie Lee (Ali), and Kari Cowen (Lisa) bring the younger women to life. The possible dads are played by Grant Mellemstrand (Harry), Graham Brockley (Sam), and Aiden Holt (Bill).

Showtimes are Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. So, all those of you who don’t fancy driving at night in winter, the CMS understands and are staging two (count ’em, two) matinees on the same weekend for you.

Tickets are $42 each for rows C-N or $28, if you are willing to sit in rows A, B, O, or P. Check out cowichanpac.ca to book online or call 250-748-7529 or just drop in and choose your seats with the help of the friendly folks at the Cowichan Ticket Centre.
