YOUNG LOCAL TALENT Keisja Cox is throwing a CD release party Oct. 11 at the K’ómoks First Nations Hall.

There is going to be a party. A CD release party!

Because Comox Valley’s 14-year-old, Grade 9 student, singer/songwriter and advocate Keisja Cox has not been able to do it Without You.

Coincidentally, the name of the first single released to radio on Oct.  1 from her debut CD Take Me Away is named Without You. Keisja has been working with Susie McGregor and Andy Lorimer of Highland Music Multimedia Productions Ltd. to make the goal of releasing a CD a reality, and that they did.

Keisja Cox melds her music with a message of kindness, compassion, and strength. She has played for many audiences showcasing her original works.

Her quiet confidence resonates on stage and in her writing and now she has her debut CD that showcases this immense talent. It has been said she possesses wisdom far beyond her young age, and a voice that evokes emotion.

Very early on in her life everyone around her knew that music would be a part of her future. At age four, she would sing from the time she opened her eyes until bedtime.

Around this same age she began to create her own musical versions of popular nursery rhymes so it did not come as a surprise when she announced at 10 years old she wanted to enter the local Valley Idol singing competition.

After becoming one of the winners in the competition, she announced, “I want to be a singer and record my own CD.”

Fast forward to age 14, numerous songs written and co-written, many hours in the recording studio, close to 30 Youth Supporting Youth concerts and presentations, attendance at three Vancouver Island Music Business Conferences, lots of showcases and an ever-growing passion for her craft.

On top of all this Keisja recently learned she has been accepted to participate in the Great Canadian Song Race in the Comox Valley during the VIMBC, and she has also been nominated for a Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Top 40 under 40 Award.

The CD release party will be held Oct. 11 at the K’ómoks First Nations Hall at 3320 Comox Rd. The celebration runs from 7 until 9:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchase at Jack’d Clothing Store, 475 Cliffe Ave. The evening will have a special performance from Keisja, appetizers, refreshments, prizes and the chance to purchase her debut CD Take Me Away.
