The Chilliwack Community Arts Council invites everyone to become one with nature during the second edition of Raku in the Valley on May 28, 2016.
This unique pottery glazing and firing event, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Thompson Regional Park (Chilliwack Lake Rd.), offers the perfect combination of hands-on art, shopping and entertainment set against the natural beauty of the Fraser Valley.
Following its successful inaugural event in May 2015, Raku in the Valley once again welcomes enthusiastic participants to learn first-hand the wonders of the lively Raku process.
Steeped in ancient Japanese origins, Raku pottery is renowned for its crackled patterns and vibrant metallic colours achieved through the use of special glazes, fire and smoke in an open air kiln.
Those looking to try their hands at glazing their very own Raku pot will be guided through the technique before witnessing the exhilarating Raku firing process in action, compliments of the experts from Rainforest Pottery and Devon Road Pottery.
In addition to hand glazing pottery, attendees will enjoy live music performed by local musician, Lakeisha, sponsored by Tractorgrease Multimedia, and have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind handcrafted creations from the Pop-Up Artisan Market (cash only). Talented artists specializing in natural body products, jewellery, pottery, paintings, and drawings will be featured.
Adding to the community atmosphere, the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department will host a barbecue by donation and Tractorgrease Café will have tempting baked goods and coffee for sale.

Raku pots can be purchased for $10 each and are limited to two per person. Registration is required prior to the event to guarantee availability.
