Ashcroft Fall Fair coming up
This year’s Ashcroft Fall Fair will be held on Sept. 11, from 10am – 5pm at Drylands Arena .
This year’s Fair is “Farm to Fork”. With this theme in mind, you can still be thinking about food products or other items that you produce, or crafts that you can create for the Fair. The Fall Fair booklet can be viewed online (www.ashcroftfallfair.net) to find out about the hundreds of submission categories this year.
To kick off the Fair and to get everyone into the mood, Winding Rivers Arts & Performance Society presents a ‘Community Dance’ on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Ashcroft Community Hall featuring Vancouver’s Wichita Trip. Wichita Trip is a five piece roots-rock combo and they play Texas-style Roadhouse Country and Honky-Tonk Rock’n Roll. Coming from diverse backgrounds and influences, they combine to produce rootsy country rock with punk and surf elements. Currently gigging around the better saloons in Vancouver and festival favourites in these parts, they just finished recording their first album and hope to have it for sale at the Fair. Go to www.myspace.com/wichitatrip to hear their music.
Check out posters around town. Tickets are available now in advance at Natures Gifts and The Ashcroft Bakery, and are also available at the door for a slightly increased price – so get your tickets early. There will be a cash bar, sorry, no minors. Doors open at 7:30 pm, show starts at 8:30 pm. For more info: www.windingriversarts.ca
The Sunday (Sept. 11) entertainment lineup promises something for everyone. The Fair Stage runs from 10:30 am to 4 pm. Acts throughout the day include Wichita Trip, The Golden Spike Can-Can Girls, Kamloops Old Time Fiddlers, The Masonettes, Flat Busted and Serge Plotnikoff – who will be performing his self-penned song, ‘Ashcroft On My Mind.’ There will also be some entertainment outside at the animal display and concession areas.
This year’s Ashcroft Fall Fair promises to be bigger and better than ever, packed with all the frolic and merriment you would expect from a hometown event. Organizers encourage you to support your town in some good, old-fashioned fun.
