Holiday Craft Shows & Bazaars

The Season for Holiday Craft Shows, Bazaars and Fairs is upon us. Check out what our many local artisans and community fundraising groups have to offer  for that perfect locally produced gift.

The 18th Annual Lillooet Arts and Craft Fair is on Sunday, Nov. 20 from 11 am until 3 pm at the Lillooet Rec Centre Gym. The Concession is being run by the LSS Grads 2012. Dog licenses for 2012 will also be on sale.

The Cache Creek and Ashcroft Artisan Fair is on Nov. 26 from 10 am to 3 pm in Cache Creek at the Community Hall. For more information call Pat Moyer (250) 457-6431.

Come support the Inter-Church Bazaar in Ashcroft on Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 2 pm at St Albans Hall.

Mark Dec. 3 on your calendars for the annual Spences Bridge Christmas Bazaar. This is the Community Club’s main fundraiser for the year. These funds support the Halloween, Christmas, and Easter events just to name a few. All items have been donated and all proceeds go to the Club. There is an amazing array of baking, beautiful arts crafts, plants, books, and the junk table is always a huge hit – one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure!

And what event would be complete without a concession selling hotdogs and the like! Doors open at 6:30 pm, selling starts at 7 pm. Everyone welcome – no admission! At Clemes Hall on Hwy 8.

One aspect of the Spences Bridge Christmas Bazaar is a Silent Auction of donated items. Check out the displays at the SB Seniors Center, the Packing House and the Inn at Spences Bridge to see the full selection. Make a bid on any item simply by adding your name to the appropriate form. Final deadline for bids will be 8 pm on the eve of the bazaar.

The annual raffle is also underway. First prize is a Cross Stitch by Carol Madden; second prize is Dinner for Two at the Packing House; third prize is a money tree donated by Marilyn and Doug Wyatt-Purden; fourth prize is a pottery set made and donated by Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan. Get your tickets now at the SB Seniors Center, the Packing House and the Inn at Spences Bridge.

Don’t forget about the Spences Bridge Christmas Turkey Bingo on Dec. 9. Come on out and win a Turkey – and have the fun of playing bingo while you’re at it! Early Bird games at 6:30pm – regular games at 7 pm, At Clemes Hall on Hwy 8.

Movie Night in Cache Creek

The Village Of Cache Creek is pleased to present a family movie night featuring the pre-release of The Smurfs on Friday, Nov. 25 at Cache Creek Community Hall. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie starts at 7 pm. Admission at the door. Popcorn and goodies available for purchase through the Cache Creek Elementary School Parent Advisory Council at the Concession. (No outside food or drink please and cell phones off for everyone’s enjoyment.)

Two nights, one man and music

The Packing House in Spences Bridge offers some great music this month. On Nov. 25 and 26, be sure not to miss the incredibly funny, and talented Tim Brecht.

Tim Brecht combines talent, a wicked sense of fun and technology to please crowds. His guitar can synthesize any instrument, including drums, and he achieves life-like horn sounds by blowing into a black tube called a “breath controller.” When he sings, Brecht utilizes a “pitch transposer” which harmonizes three-part vocals for him. The only drawback with this gadget, Brecht says, is when he forgets the words, the machine does, too.

Brecht plays an astonishing variety of music, taking everything he covers and making it uniquely his. Reservations required as they have limited seating available (250) 458-2256 or visit the Packing House in Spences Bridge.

Dessert Concerts and WRAP raffle

Winding Rivers Arts & Performance Society would like to thank the many folks in our Community and the surrounding area that have come out to enjoy the first three shows of the Dessert Concert Series that began last October. All three were close to sellouts with no doubt some amazing music provided by Infinitus, Maria In The Shower and April Verch.

WRAP Society members would like to thank a few folks who have helped out with this year’s shows and raffle. Much thanks goes to Rhonda Hanson and Anne McKague for selling beyond their share of raffle tickets plus Jo-Anne Portman for the great idea; Ken Platz from St Albans for additional stage construction; to all the many bakers for all the yummy desserts and to Jim Duncan and Martina Baier for coordinating the kitchen; Andrea Bona for coordinating concert ticket sales, volunteers and being a fabulous Emcee; and Nadine Davenport for programming such great entertainment, coordinating advertising, sound and lights. Additional thanks to Jan Schmitz, Tracie Model and Leslie Alexander for assistance with sound and lights.

WRAP would also like to thank outgoing president Jessica Clement and welcome newly elected president John Kidder. Other elected Directors at WRAP’s recent AGM include vice president Nadine Davenport, treasurer Andrea Bona, secretary Martina Baier and directors Jo-Anne Portman, Susan McLean, Jim Duncan and Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan.

Thank you to all who bought WRAP raffle tickets and supported local arts and culture in the Ashcroft area. Congratulations to the winners: (1st) Julie McEwen who won a Galaxy Tab and two concert tickets, (2nd) Kim Michel who won a Kobo Reader and two concert tickets and (3rd) Colleen Minnabarriet who won four tickets to each remaining Dessert Concert.

Plans are in the works for a Theatrical Kids play to be directed by local Actress and Director Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan. Preparation for the March performance begins in early January with auditions and rehearsals soon after. Look for posters in the new year. Don’t forget  about the last two Dessert Concerts which will take place on Saturday, March 10 with John Gilliat (Flamenco guitarist) and on Saturday, April 14 with Linda McRae (old time country).

Live Music makes a great gift – contact Andrea to purchase a WRAP Gift Certificate for any future Dessert Concert performance.

If you are interested in volunteering for WRAP they are looking to expand there working volunteer base and encourage folks in the community to lend a hand in any way.
