Deathtrap, the final show of the Footlighters Theatre Society’s 17th season, begins rehearsals on Jan. 11, and auditions for five roles will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan.9 at the Snoring Sasquatch.

Three men and two women are needed for the comedy-thriller, which will be co-directed by Geri Buchanan and Brian Lawrence, who directed a highly successful production of The Sound of Music last spring.

“This will be the second time Footlighters has produced Deathtrap,” said Lawrence, president of Foot-lighters. “It was our first show, but the group was unknown at the time so attendance was low. We thought it deserved another chance.”

The play — which ran for 1,809 performances on Broadway from 1978-1982 —concerns playwright Sidney Bruhl, who is having trouble writing his next big play following a string of box office flops. Desperate, he reads a play by young writer Clifford Anderson and decides to steal it. As with any good thriller, many shocking plot twists ensue.

Three men and two women are required for Deathtrap’s roles:

•Sidney Bruhl, author of several hit Broadway thrillers;

•Myra Bruhl, Sidney’s wife;

•Clifford Anderson, an up-and-coming young writer;

•Helga ten Dorp, the psychic staying next door to the Bruhls; and

•Porter Milgrim, Sidney’s lawyer.

Those auditioning will be asked to perform a cold reading of a portion or portions of the script; no additional preparation is necessary. Deathtrap will run March 29-31 at the Prince Charles Theatre.
