The Creston Festival of the Arts celebrated a successful festival in March, bringing the expertise of outstanding adjudicators Susan de Burgh in piano, Trish Horrocks for strings and Nathan Chan for speech arts and drama. These adjudicators made recommendations for students who have exceptional performances to advance to the competitions at the provincial level.

Four contestants and one recommended observer traveled to Fort St. John for the provincial competition of the Performing Arts BC provincial festival in June. Of these four, three made it into the list of winners.

Alec Hammond has already won first place in the Junior A in 2014 and Junior B in 2015. He was now competing in the intermediate category, which is older than his age group, and he was runner up in the Canadian music division. He studies with Arne Sahlen (Kimberley).

Two more music students attending were Emma Penner (competitor in violin and observer in piano) and Cory Hammond (observer in violin).

The high school drama students were transported to the festival by Brooke Douma, their drama teacher. Zoe Marini received an honorable mention in intermediate Shakespeare, and Anjali Ewing received an honorable mention in senior Shakespeare.

The Creston Festival of the Arts extends congratulations to all the festival participants for their hard work!
