Ladysmith shutterbugs will be getting a taste of what it is like to be on a crime scene. Not literally, jokes Brad Grigor with the Ladysmith Camera Club, there won’t be any dead bodies.Forensic photographer Const. Dave Giles will be at Hardwick Hall, High Street at Third Avenue, on March 22 to talk about everything from lighting to equipment.“He is going to speak about the use of photography in the forensic investigation,” said Grigor. There is much more to this talk than just looking at the practical side of photography. Const. Giles will be able to shed light on everything from lighting, technique and exposure to how to preserve a crime scene as evidence.“I expect we are going to learn quite a lot of interesting things about ‘Hey, it’s not just you take a point-and-shoot camera out of your pocket at the scene,” said Grigor.“This gentleman uses photography and his skills in his day-to-day-job,” said Grigor.Grigor credits the club’s programming committee with booking shows like this.Local students and their parents are invited to come and the $5 guest drop-in fee will be waived for any students who show their valid ID.“The public is always welcome,” said Grigor.“We thought this would be of real interest to students.”Grigor said the camera club is always looking for new members and encourages people to check out their growing membership.“The camera club is really a great place to come out and meet people and find out lots of interesting things about photography.”For more information, visit ladysmithcameraclub.com or check them out on Facebook.— Matt Peterson
