Adonis Puentes will be performing at the ACT October 15.

The sounds and rhythms of Cuba will be coming to the ACT in Maple Ridge.

Cuban/Canadian vocalist and songwriter Adonis Puentes will be performing with the Voice of Cuba Orchestra, an acoustic six-piece band.

Puentes will be performing Cuban classics in addition to original compositions, including songs from his 2014 Juno nominated album Sabor A Cafe.

Puentes was born in Artemisa, Havana, Cuba and started his career touring with his fraternal twin brother, Alex Cuba, and their father, Valentin, a guitarist and music professor.

After settling in Canada, the brothers earned a Juno nomination together as the Puentes Brothers.

Since then, the Juno- and Grammy-award nominated artist has earned global acclaim with his solo career performing ballads backed by a mix of Spanish guitars and African beats specific to Cuba.

Puentes earned a Grammy nomination for his lead work with the nine-piece Los Angeles-based band Mongorama, directed by radio host and disc jockey José Rizo.

He has toured with Cuban flutist Orlando Maraca Valle and shared the stage at the Lincoln Center in New York with Latin musicians Larry Harlow and Ruben Blades.

He has also performed at music festivals around the world, including SXSW in Austin, Texas and Java Jazz in Jakarta, Indonesia.

This past summer, Puentes recorded a new album in Los Angeles, produced by multiple Grammy winning maestro Oscar Hernandez.

At this show, the audience will not only be encouraged to get up and dance, but that will be expected.

The concert takes place Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. at the ACT in Maple Ridge, 11944 Haney Place.

Tickets are $38 for adults $34 for seniors and $15 for 24 years old and under.

There will also be a free Fiesta Latina Fitness Zumba class at the ACT at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6.
