Spirit of the West front man John Mann entertained the crowd at the fifth-annual Cultural Days at Centre Stage at Surrey Centre Hall on Thursday, helping to kick off the provincewide event.
The kick-off also featured numerous performances by the likes of Lisa Brokop, Surrey City Orchestra, and an array of other dancers and entertainers.
Below are young artists Hayaty Mohamed (left), 5, and Jessiah Elesie, 5, who painted with their hands during the Culture Days kick off and Rawle Iam James, 2014 Culture Days Ambassador, who gave a poetry reading.
From Sept. 26-28, more than 200 free, interactive activities are planned throughout Metro Vancouver, which coincides with celebrations across Canada. Check www.bc.culturedays.ca. For some of the events in Surrey, check here.
The event was also used to launch the City of Surrey’s new marketing brand for Arts and Heritage (AH). Say AH for Arts and Heritage in Surrey promotes the city’s contemporary art gallery, state of the art civic theatres, heritage attractions, museum exhibitions, archival collections and public art installations.
