Cultural inclusion all rapped up

Performers and speakers with Word to Your Motherland spread their message to several Surrey schools this week.

California based hip hop artist Mandeep Sethi (foreground) and DJ Gabriel Dela Cruz rap a tale of inclusion and understanding through the fusion of hip hop and the South Asian culture, while at the same time paying respect to your own and each other’s cultural roots.

The creators of Word to your Motherland, a performance and workshop series that helps students re-connect to their cultural heritage, Sethi and Dela Cruz spent the morning at Central City Learning Centre in North Surrey, dancing, rapping and discussing how to find your own voice and how to use all our differences as strengths and how we can all co-exist in harmony.

The artists from Word to Your Motherland will be offering performances and workshops in various Surrey schools throughout the week.
