Well-known for its art exhibits and music presentations, the McMillan Arts Centre will offer something completely different this weekend when musician Sarah M. Wood presents Take Off or Take the Fall Sunday evening.
Wood’s original musical production offers an insightful look at life through song, movement and dance in what is dubbed a dance opera.
The artists said this contemporary dance opera has been more than 25 years in the making and is being shown on stage for the first time.
It portrays conflicts and resolutions in a journey of life from childhood to maturity.
Sequences of tenderness, awkwardness, happiness, despair, and reconciliation provide moments that are alternately touching, thought-provoking, hilarious, and joyous.
Take Off or Take the Fall stars local actors/singers Andrea Smith, Andrea Stenerson, Belle Warner, Jimmy Kwas, Alex MacDonald, and Padraig Hogan, with cameo performances by Elise Boulanger and Earle Gibson.
Stage direction is by Arlene Blundell with choreography by Cayra Tansey. Accompaniment will be provided by musical director Patrick Courtin.
The show is uniquely suited for the MAC’s close, intimate main hall. The audience surrounding the actors and musician adds to the whole exciting experience of being part of a theatrical performance.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $12 for OCAC members.
