Dancers dominate the Port Theatre

DanceCore runs until Sunday (May 10) at the Port Theatre.

Dancers from studios across Vancouver Island have invaded the Harbour City this week.

Currently taking place at the Port Theatre is DanceCore, a six-day series of dance competitions and workshops.

DanceCore organizer and graduate of Nanaimo District Secondary School Geneen Georgiev said that while the event is competitive it’s also about forming new relationships for the dancers, who are between the ages of 6 and 20.

“It’s a competition but we try to get everybody to learn and make friends,” she said.

The final day of the event, Sunday (May 10) will include an awards ceremony and gala, which features the top 10 dancers from the solo and group divisions.

The ceremony and gala takes place at 5 p.m. with tickets ranging from $20 to $25. For ticket purchases and more information, including a full event schedule, please visit www.porttheatre.com.
