Ukrainian dancers will dazzle Nanaimo audience members with their folk ballet at the Port Theatre Saturday (June 22).
Suzirya Dance Theatre of Calgary performs Spirits of the Season. The show is about the beauty of nature and the dancers will perform to various works created to reflect the beauty of nature.
During the show the prophetess of nature calls to each season to visit the stage.
It begins with spring and young love and heads to summer where young girls will dream of their love. Summer is also the festival of Kupala, a celebration of youth.
The autumn scene is full of the bountiful harvest and celebrations. The audience will be introduced to a bride and groom dreaming of what their future may hold.
During the second part of the performance people will see a variety of traditional Ukrainian dances followed by singing by solo vocalist Tetiana Onyshchenko.
The performance ends with the traditional Ukrainian dance, the Hopak. The performance was created by Ukrainian ballet master Serguei Makarov and composer Yevhen Dosenko and includes more than 20 dancers.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
