Dancing to the end of season

Shuswap Dance Center celebrates another year with two recitals and a gala

The Shuswap Dance Center is sharing its winning ways in three year-end recitals.

Junior dancers, eight years old and younger will dance at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, with highlights performed by senior dancers.

This year’s theme is games – Candyland, video games, Blind Man’s Bluff, leap frog and more, says Dance Center owner and instructor Carolyn Wonacott

The theme is the same but the numbers are different at 7 p.m. Saturday when the senior dancers take to the stage.

Both shows include ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary and tap.

A gala show at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 17 will highlight all the pieces from this year’s competitions.

“We did well,” says Wonacott. “We actually had four dancers who competed to be in Provincials and all four attended last weekend in Kamloops, with people from all over B.C.”

One dancer got an honourable mention in her category for coming in fourth. Dancers also competed, and took first or second, in the Kamloops Performing Arts Festival, Penticton Performing Arts Festival and the Great Canadian Dance Challenge.

The June 17 gala will feature all the award-winning numbers with a combination of solos, duets, trios and group numbers in a variety of genres.

The three performances take place at the Nexus at First United Church.
