“It was very cool,” said David Gogo of winning the Maple Blues Award for Guitar Player of the Year.
The blues and rock artist, who hails from Cordova Bay, was nominated for three Maple Blues Awards this year.
“I was nominated for Electric Act of the Year and Recording of the Year and Guitar Player of the Year,” Gogo said.
He said winning the Guitar Player of the Year was really special because he was up against acclaimed artists like Colin James.
He received the same award close to 15 years ago.
The Maple Blues Awards is Canada’s national blues awards program. Its goal is to promote blues music across Canada, and to recognize outstanding achievement in the field.
Gogo’s latest album Vicksburg Call was nominated for Recording of the Year at this year’s Maple Blues Awards. He will be performing songs, solo, from this album at Char’s Landing on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 8- 10 p.m.
Gogo said he enjoys performing both solo and with a band during live shows.
When he’s solo, Gogo said he often tells stories about his adventures on the road and playing on stage with some of the greats like B.B King.
Ticktes to Saturday’s show are $25 or $20 for seniors and kids and available in advance at Char’s or by calling 778-421-2427.
