In what could be described as Brad Pitt vs. zombies, World War Z rises above the typical zombie movie.
Based on the popular novel by Max Brooks, Pitt stars as United Nations employee Gerry Lane, who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to destroy humanity itself.
Directed by Marc Forster, it’s one of the few movies with a myriad of production difficulties that has resulted in a successful outcome.
Although a large number of writers on a screenplay could be a sign of trouble, the talent pool it drew from can actually be credited for helping the movie, including J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods).
Described as more of an action movie than zombie horror, most critics are heaping praise on it as a summer thrill ride.
