With this year’s Academy Award nominations, what may be talked about more than who was nominated, but who and what was not nominated.
The big snub seems to be Lee Daniel’s The Butler, which received absolutely no nominations.
Adding the proverbial insult to injury, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa received a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling—a category which seemed to be a shoo-in for The Butler considering not only Forest Whitaker’s aging but the numerous other transformations of well-known actors into historical figures.
Other snubs include movies like Inside Llewyn Davis, Saving Mr. Banks, Fruitvale Station, Lone Survivor, Prisoners, Rush and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
Not only is Whitaker obviously absent from the Best Actor category, Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks) and Robert Redford (All is Lost) are missing as well.
Emma Thompson’s name is missing from the nominees as is Oprah Winfrey and it would have been great to see Scarlett Johansson’s name on the nominees list because, if her voice performance in Her was not as good as it was, the movie simply would not have worked.
