Day-long concert in Gyro Park to support kids

Starting at noon tomorrow, Penticton’s Gyro Park will be rocking as a day-long music festival takes over the park in support of a children’s charity.

“The reason we are doing it all is for the South Okanagan Children’s Charity,” said DeAnna MacArthur, who is organizing the festival, Artemis Goudelis.

“We’ve got six bands playing on the main stage. And then on top of that, we’ve got belly dancers performing, there is gong to be a children’s entertainment section, with face painting, an art table, people performing there as well,” said MacArthur. “All the stuff in the park is free but we are going to keep passing the bucket around and asking that people give a donation.”

This is the fourth show of this type they have organized with a different charity in mind each time, like the Conservation Alliance or the women’s centre.

“Our other shows have been coffee shop shows, but we decided for the summer we’d do something really big,” said MacArthur. “And we partnered up with the children’s charity. They have a few different programs where they provide money for medical needs for children and another program where they build parks in the community”

“This time we wanted to do something for children. Probably what really inspired it is that Artemis has a baby. She feels really lucky to have a kid here, because it’s a great place with a lot of support,” said MacArthur, who admitted that picking a group to support was a hard decision.

“They’re all worthwhile. We just had to wade through and figure out which one,” she said, adding that the Children’s Charity seemed like it could use more support and advertising.

“We want people to know that it exists. We also felt really great about what they are doing, it’s a charity that is really doing things that we can see,” said MacArthur.
