The third Thursday of the month is Oscar Robles Diaz night at the Zocalo Cafe.Tonight, Diaz will present heartfelt renditions of classic Mexican boleros and folk songs, as well as the music of Cuba, specifically its son and trova traditions.
Son is a major genre of Cuban music that helped lay the foundation for many Latin music forms that came after, including salsa.
Diaz will pay tribute to the legendary ‘trovador’ Silvio Rodriguez, celebrated as a leader in Cuba’s Nueva Trova movement, and also as Cuba’s best folk singer. Show starts at 7 p.m.
