The musical group Divertimento will participate in a service of lessons and carols this Saturday.

It happens at 11 a.m. at the Courtenay Seventh-day Adventist Church at 4660 Headquarters Rd. in Courtenay (just past Casa Loma).

Divertimento’s players are Comox Valley residents Ruth Allen, Maureen Bedford and Martha Massey. They play various types of recorders, flute and cello.

On this occasion they will be playing between Bible readings focusing on Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Their music will include familiar melodies such as the Largo from Handel’s Xerxes, Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and Beethoven’s Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.

Those attending will have the opportunity to sing some of their favourite hymns such as When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Thine is the Glory, the latter set to the magnificent tune for See the Conquering Hero Comes which Handel composed for his oratorio Judas Maccabaeus.

Following the program donations will be received for ongoing relief work in around the world done by the Adventist Development Relief Agency.
