Dover Bay student ready to perform

Kate Krynowsky reads at the Upper Island Music Festival’s Honours Performance on Sunday.

A Dover Bay Secondary School student will be showcasing her talents this weekend.

On Sunday (April 19) at St. Andrew’s United Church, Kate Krynowsky will be reading a monologue from The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds by Paul Zindel at the Upper Island Music Festival’s Honours Performance.

“I am super excited,” Krynowsky said. “I have gone to see it [Upper Island Music Festival’s Honours Performance] for the past couple of years now.”

Krynowsky is one of countless number of young performers at the festival, which features showcases by students, who are between the ages of 8 and 18, in a variety of fields such as piano, violin and theatre.

“It is a really great performance,” Krynowsky said. “It is all of the top performers as well as all of the representatives performing.”

Krynowsky has been involved a number of theatrical productions including the Nanaimo Theatre Group’s production of Pirates of the Panto as well as Dover Bay Secondary School’s recent production of 9 to 5.

Following the honours performance, Krynowsky, as well as many other performers in the festival, will head to Powell River to participate in the Provincial Performing Arts competition in May.
