Downtown Langley plaza has events all summer

The Plaza, a.k.a. McBurney Plaza, is going to be a very busy place this summer.

The McBurney Plaza Summer Series, presented by the City of Langley and Downtown Langley Business Association, kicked off Saturday, June 13 with Build It in the Plaza.

During the event, Sow and Dipity blogger Shelly Levis offered live demos and more than 20 garden ideas; Don Thomson of DonCol Nature Products helped children build toolboxes and birdhouses; and musician Andrew Christopher was on site with live performances throughout the day.

This was the first of five events scheduled to take place on Saturdays in McBurney Plaza from June to late September.

Each event has its own theme and is free to attend.

Theatre in the Plaza takes place June 27. This festival includes a face painting and costume station, group acting lesson and interactive family friendly performances by P.L.A.Y. (Professional Live Arts for Youth www.professionalliveartsforyouth.ca) and Bard in the Valley.

Art in the Plaza is on July 25. Local painters, sculptors, and carvers will share their creative process as they work onsite. The event also includes art lessons. Young artists can pick up a free canvas board from Opus starting July 1 and return your artwork by July 20 and have their art displayed at the event in a professionally curated gallery.

Animals in the Plaza is Aug. 8, when the Urban Safari Rescue Society will showcase rehabilitated animals through educational presentations.

Circus in the Plaza happens Sept. 26 with special guests from the Inner Ring including stilt walkers, jugglers, and unicyclists visiting McBurney Plaza. Visitors will learn to juggle, plate spin or master the flower sticks, play a carnival game and visit balloon artist Scruffles the Clown.

Each event runs from noon to 3 p.m
