The Downtown Vernon Association (DVA) is offering another year of free summer entertainment.
Two months of music and free entertainment starts this week with Curbside Live, featuring buskers and street performers along 30th Avenue.
“Curbside Live is Downtown Vernon’s busking program that brings fantastic local entertainers to the street to provide informal, afternoon entertainment,” said Hailey Rilkoff, the DVA’s events and promotions coordinator. “Stroll 30th Avenue and you’ll come across busk stops with every type of performance from classic country to electric violins to a barbershop quartet.”
Curbside Live is every Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. July 8 to Aug. 26 and every Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the Avenue Market.
The live atmosphere continues with Jammin’ in Justice, downtown’s Vernon’s newest free music series that takes place every Wednesday in Justice Park from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The venue provides the perfect venue for a picnic lunch with local bands and a few visiting performers.
Acts such as Steel Wound, Amistad, Raquel Cole and The Treble Makers are just a few who will be Jammin’ in Justice this summer.
Then there’s Civic Sounds, featuring well known local bands performing to the crowds in Civic Plaza on Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.
“This year we have another star-studded lineup of bands including The Young’Uns, Cod Gone Wild, The Legendary Lake Monsters, Kath and the TomKats and the Shawn Lightfoot Band,” said Rilkoff. “You’ll want to remember your dancing shoes.”
The first band starting the Civic Sounds concert series is Cheaper Than a Porsche on Thursday, with MACE ending the season Aug. 28.
The DVA encourages people of all ages to set up a lawn chair or lay out a blanket, have a picnic and enjoy the show.
“Many of the downtown restaurants have to-go menus and would be happy to provide a meal for you, your family and your friends while you are listening to the entertainment in Civic Plaza,” said Rilkoff. “You can also bring non-perishable food items to help Bannister Honda Heap The Honda for the Vernon food bank.”
