Get your act together now for Duncan Has Talent 2016.
The popular competition is back for another year as part of the 39 Days of July festival, starting the week of July 5 with the dance competition preliminaries.
And the prize money is back, too.
There’s a $500 prize for first place, $250 for second and $100 for third as the Duncan Lions’ Sassy Lion Thrift Store has stepped up to sponsor the first three categories.
Organizers are still looking for one more sponsor for a fourth category.
To take part, contestants must be under 20 years of age.
All events start at 5 p.m. sharp at the stage at Charles Hoey Park in Duncan. All contestants must be on site and ready with appropriate music/instruments and checked in no later than 15 minutes before 5 p.m. (unless pre-authorized).
Signups can be done during the first week of the festival at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at subsequent “open mic” slots, which are great times to get used to the stage.
Entry forms must be turned in at least 15 minutes before the opening night of each category. Check the 39 Days Facebook page for the forms.
You may drop them off at the red caboose at the park; look for the mail slot or email them to summerfestival@gmail.com
Contestants can also take a chance and show up on the opening evening of their category by 4:30 p.m.
Categories are dance, originals/instrumentals, cover/show tunes and a new category, duos/trios/bands.
Cathy Schmidt will be involved in mentoring the dance section again this year.
Preliminaries for Dance start on Tuesday, July 5, with mentoring continuing July 6, with semi-finals on Thursday, July 7.
The finals for this event will be held Friday, July 8 starting at 5 p.m.
Laura Cardriver and Mary Egan are teaming up to mentor the performers in the originals and instrumentals category. This one starts Wednesday, July 13 and continues July 14. The finals will take the stage on July 15.
The following week, the hotly contested category of cover/show tunes will begin under the mentorship of Schmidt and Cardriver.
Preliminaries start on Wednesday, July 20 and continue Thursday with the finals taking place at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 22.
A new category this year offers duos trios and bands the chance to work with selected musicians as mentors on July 27-28 before reaching the finals Friday, July 29.
