Longevity John Falkner isn’t letting the COVID-19 crisis interfere with his business.
In fact, the owner of the Duncan Showroom, said the crisis that is keeping people from crowded places may be like making lemonade out of lemons for him.
Like most entertainment venues, the Showroom has had its fair share of cancellations since the COVID-19 crisis began a few weeks ago.
But live-stream shows have been an integral part of Falkner’s business for years, and he expects it could be a bonus during the ongoing crisis.
Faulkner said live-streaming doesn’t require a live audience, and that really opens things up for the Showroom.
“Instead of just watching Netflix while sitting at home during the crisis, people can live-stream shows from the Showroom by clicking www.showroomproductions.ca and linking to live-stream productions,” he said.
“We’ll also provide updates on what we’re live-streaming on our Facebook page. The tip jar is always open.”
Faulkner said musician Stephen Fearing was scheduled to play a show in Victoria, but it was canceled and now Fearing will be live-streaming from the Showroom at 7 p.m. on March 18, and will do another show at 4 p.m. on March 22.
Fearing is a Canadian roots/folk singer-songwriter.
In addition to his solo career, Fearing co-founded Canadian roots-rock super group Blackie and the Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden and Tom Wilson.
He is also one half of the duo Fearing & White, with Irish artist Andy White.
Falkner said 11-year-old dynamo Malakai, who is from the Cowichan Valley, will be live-streaming a half-hour show to celebrate his birthday at the Showroom on March 21, starting at 4 p.m.
He said Malakai, a young music prodigy who is a familiar musician at the Showroom despite his age, plays guitar, piano, mandolin as well as several other instruments, and also has an excellent singing voice.
Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whitely will be streaming Saturday, March 21, starting at 7 p.m., and Stephen Fearing will back to streen the second half of his CD on Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m.
Stay tuned for updates on what live streams will be coming up from the Showroom.
