Comox Valley Art Gallery is joining forces with Comox Valley Arts Council to host local exhibitions in all media from June 2-30.

CVAG and CVAC are bringing together artists, writers, performers, collaborators, creative collectives and cultural thinkers, weaving their forms of expression together for The Elevate Arts Festival, May 31 to June 3.

Next Friday, June 2 at 7 p.m., CVAG will host an art opening of Image to Text to Image, featuring local creatives including poet Cornelia Hoogland and sculptor Ted Goodden, dancer Jade de Trey, print demos by NIC and Comox Valley Print Makers Association, and a performative making installation by Anne J Steves.

The community exhibition Image to Text to Image will showcase over 60 local submissions.

Hoogland will present her poems as part of the Book of Changes:Notes and Gestures and Goodden has created sculptural variations with a single male figure and a ball.

Their show will echo elemental imagery and form, as well as an open-ended interpretability responding to the I Ching.

Jade de Trey will perform Timelessness – A Wild Blue Yonder, a contemporary creative and intuitive dance that expresses explorations of love, fear, birth and death.

Finding Form in the Repeated Absurdity of Dada Art by CVPA and NIC is an extended dialogue that pokes at today’s global climate, utilizing the Dada tools of satire and nonsense.

On Saturday, June 3, drop-in between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to make art. From 11 a.m. -to 2 p.m.

Hoogland and Goodden will facilitate: Words Talks to Image, a clay modelling and poetry writing workshop. Steves will host a workshop: A-Luring things.

She will assist visitors with creating fishing lures, attempting to ‘capture’ community into making art.

On Saturday, June 9, join local poet laureate Natalie Nickerson from 1- 4 p.m. to create collage and poetry during her Tunnel Visions make art workshop.

CVAG welcomes all ages to participate in its programs. Admission is by donation and materials are provided.
