The award-winning chamber ensemble, Encore! Women’s Choir, is presenting its spring concert on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Duncan.
They plan to honour the country’s diverse and inclusive culture in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
The show, called Savory, Sage, Rosemary &Thyme, is an evening of music that will represent Canada through themes of peace and harmony as well as music from across the nation.
Director Christine Dandy, has created a program that will guide the audience on a picturesque journey across Canada.
The tone of the evening will be set by pieces such as ‘Song for Peace,’ arranged by Diane Loomer, and that theme will be further explored through several other pieces including ‘Peace Walk’ by Deborah Sumner and Sarah Jaysmith’s arrangement of ‘Garten Mother’s Lullaby,’ each of which convey messages of harmony and peace.
Perhaps the most stunning message of the evening however, will come from ‘Even When He is Silent,’ by Kim André Arnesen. The text of this work was found on the wall of a concentration camp: a message of faith, love and hope in the face of the greatest adversity.
Advance tickets are available from choir members, Volume One Books, online at www.encore womenschoir.com, or by calling 250-715-1568.
They are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. At the door, you’ll pay $20.
