Enderby opens to the arts

Enderby is about host artists and art lovers for the annual Enderby Arts Festival Saturday, July 23 and Music by the River July 24.

With its newly revitalized  downtown,  Enderby is about host artists and art lovers for the annual Enderby Arts Festival Saturday, July 23.

Hosted by the Enderby and District Arts Council (EDAC), visitors can take in the sights, sounds and wares of the outdoor Artisan Market,  where more than 50 vendors will offer a wide variety of handcrafted items for sale.

“A new addition to the festival this year is a quilt show and raffle by the Enderby Cliff Quilters,” said EDAC president Diana Inselberg. “You can see this display at 617 Cliff Ave., the new home of the Enderby & District Arts Council.  Experience the work of a talented group or local artists at the Courtyard Gallery on Belvedere Street and check out their clothesline sale of small original artworks.”

In the centre of everything is the Grant Russell Stage, with all-day music and activities.

Acts this year include Happy Hungry Hippies, Shaughnessy Rose, Hawaiian dancers, Marv Machura and The Keys.

“Food is a big part of any festival and no one will go hungry with the food court on Cliff  Avenue,” said Inselberg. “There will also be the Lions pancake breakfast on Belvedere Street, followed by the Enderby Legion burger barbecue, plus Enderby’s many fine restaurants.”

Returning this year is the Family Fun Zone in Belvidere Park, complete with face painting,  games, clowns, Kiki the Eco Elf, and mini goat petting zoo.

The fun continues the next day when the EDAC presents its Music on the River series with The Dirt Road Angels, an all-female quintet from Edmonton.

“This country-rock-contemporary band formed in 2013 and they have been described as Canadian country music’s Spice Girls,” said Inselberg. “All five are talented, creative and seasoned recording artists.”

The women perform  Sunday, July 24 at 7 p.m.

Please note the change of venue from Belvidere Park to the Lion’s Gazebo in Riverside Park. The concert will take place rain or shine and is free, with donations accepted during intermission. Bring a chair or blanket.
