A concert at The MAC will feature fun, Ragtime songs from the Naughty Nineties this Friday.
Performers in the show include 24-year-old vocalist Lauren Bush from Nanaimo and Oceanside resident Dave Klinger on piano.
Klinger, originally from Michigan, is organizing the show. He has a Master’s degree in classical piano and has spent years teaching and playing in and around Calgary.
Klinger said he’s particularly proud of this show because of Bush’s talent, she’s already got a degree in music and is studying to be a teacher, he said.
“She’s a delightful young woman to be working with,” he said.
The duo will perform songs from the mid-1880s to 1905, like Daisy Bell, The Band Played On, and Bill Bailey Won’t You Please Come Home.
Klinger’s favourite is called The Bird on Nellie’s Hat, where it’s not the two-timing Nellie or her boyfriend that speaks to the audience but the bird.
“It’s very, very clever,” said Klinger.
There will also be some comedy during the show and some professional photos of old, classic cars for viewing. Klinger and Bush will both be in costume for the event to add a little extra pizzazz.
The show happens Friday, March 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The MAC, formerly the Oceanside Community Arts Council at 133 McMillan Street, Parksville.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Call 250-248-8185 to order tickets Tuesday through Saturday.
