Enjoy candle-lit entertainment for Earth Hour

Don’t be afraid of the dark when the lights go off on Saturday night.

Local businesses are joining the City of Vernon in recognizing Earth Hour, an international power saving event where people are asked to turn off their lights, lower their heat, and abstain from using electric appliances for just one hour.

The Bean Scene Coffee House will light some candles so that patrons can enjoy some “unplugged” tunes provided by Vernon musicians Peter and Jayme McKillop and Easy Street during the event.

“This is my third year playing music at this event,” said Jayme McKillop. “It’s so wonderful to be doing something I love so much during an event that millions of people around the world are participating in at the same time.”

Other local establishments, such as participating businesses, restaurants and the Greater Vernon Aquatic Centre, will also dim their lights.

Earth Hour takes place Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. More  information on local events is available at www.vernon.ca/lifestyles/sustainability/earth_hour.html.
