Members of the Ancora Women’s Ensemble sing from the heart.

The provincial award-winning ensemble, a 17-voice adult choir with members from the Shuswap and Vernon areas, will present their annual Heart Songs concert on Feb. 11 in Salmon Arm.

Ancora will perform a diverse repertoire of choral chamber music – Canadian works for women’s choir, contemporary classical pieces, a powerfully emotional Japanese piece dedicated to the 2011 Tsunami victims and a beautiful tone poem by Imant Raminsh, the internationally acclaimed composer from Vernon.

Some of the pieces will be a cappella, while others will be accompanied by Jim Johnston, a talented and well known local pianist.

Ancora is pleased to welcome a guest artist from Salmon Arm,  Holly McCallum, a gifted young cello player.

At the Shuswap Music Festival last year, McCallum was the recipient of the Outstanding Intermediate/Senior String Award and the BC Registered Music Teachers Association Shuswap Branch Award.

The members of Ancora have been singing together for five years under the artistic direction of Terry Logan.

Treat yourself to an entertaining afternoon of music at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at St. John’s Anglican Church. Tickets may be purchased for $15 at Acorn Music, from choir members, or at the door. Children under 12 are admitted free.
