Join the Erickson history book committee from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 19 at the former Garden Bakery on Canyon Street. View a display of past Creston Valley Blossom Festival queen candidates, highlighting those from Erickson and enjoy plenty of historical photos and info.
Also featured, at 1 p.m., will be a reading of specially selected portions of Evah (née Cartwright) McKowen’s 1919 book, Janet of Kootenay, by Shirley Cameron, Jason Smith, Jordan Koop, Ann Deatherage and Gail Kitt.
“There are many books that attempt to paint a picture of life in the Creston valley just after the turn of the century but unlike Janet of Kootenay they were all written decades after the fact,” said committee volunteer Jason Smith. “This book paints a rare and accurate picture of life in the valley during the First World War.”
At 2 p.m. visitors can enjoy musical guests Jayli and Hayden Wolf.
The event allows Erickson residents to find out how they can submit their family’s history and view examples of histories already submitted.
“We want to hear your story or just come on down for a visit and have some tea or coffee,” said committee chair Sharon Brennan. “After the parade, there will be plenty of goodies and refreshments available by donation.”
